What a beautiful gift from George Williams and Miles Hastings! A new podium and side table were presented to the Citizens of King George County at the BOS meeting last night. Mr. Hastings told the story of the 255+ year old black walnut tree from Canning Farm that the podium and side table were crafted from and it was just amazing!
Come on out to our General Membership Meeting tomorrow (3/20) at 5:45 at the Sheriff’s Office Meeting Room to watch a replay of the recorded presentation and our presentation to the BOS for expanded Museum space.
Hope to see you there!

Miles said the black walnut tree was a seedling when KG county was formed in 1720. Isn’t; that something? Did you know where the name Canning came from? In French means the way of the church, cool stuff. What amazing craftsman and beautiful wood. I don’t know if you can find it anymore. Surely an awesome a kind gift from both men. I think he said he and his uncle sawed the tree down in 1957 was cut up and put up in his family barn since then. Such interesting story. The Podium and its story, is a must to see. Hoping lots of folks get to come out to the KGHS meeting tomorrow and hear the whole story. I could listen to Miles Hasting talk about colonial times in our area forever. What a beautiful gift to the board of supervisors and the citizens of King George County. Thank you Miles Hastings and Mr. Williams. PS each of the 8 board of supervisors also got wooden ink pen from Miles made from the same tree. That was over 250 years old.
