2017 KG Historical Society Metal Christmas Ornament – Lambs Creek Church
This finely detailed metal ornament commemorates Lambs Creek Church, a striking example of colonial Anglican architecture in King George County, designed circa 1769–1777 by noted architect John Ariss. Its restrained yet elegant character is defined by refined brickwork, balanced proportions, a hipped roof, and a side entrance — showcasing a masterful blend of simplicity and sophistication.

The church holds layers of history: it served Brunswick Parish and later was repurposed as a stable by Union troops during the Civil War, before being lovingly restored for worship in 1908. Listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register in August 1972 and the National Register of Historic Places the following month, Lambs Creek Church is a storied landmark in both architecture and community memory.

As the featured subject of the 2017 ornament, this keepsake honors Lambs Creek Church’s enduring legacy — its architectural grace, historical endurance, and ties to the spiritual life of King George County — making it a meaningful memento of both place and time.
