2015 KG Historical Society Metal Christmas Ornament – Rokeby
This distinguished metal ornament honors Rokeby, a magnificent Federal‑style country mansion built circa 1828 in King George County. Perched atop a commanding hill overlooking the Rappahannock River Valley, Rokeby embodies refined architectural elegance with its symmetrical three‑bay façade, low‑hipped roof, tripartite windows, and a graceful elliptical fanlight above the entrance.

Beyond its architectural beauty, Rokeby reflects the agrarian roots of the region and the social stature of its early owners. The estate originally spanned nearly 2,000 acres and included a thriving plantation economy, anchored by the notable Gustavus Brown Wallace. In the early 20th century, financier Langbourne Meade Williams transformed the estate into a genteel retreat for Virginia’s political and economic elite, hosting gatherings that drew even the governor and legislators.

Chosen as the 2015 subject in the Society’s collectible ornament series, this keepsake represents Rokeby’s architectural legacy and its role in King George’s social and agrarian history—making it a meaningful and elegant symbol for collectors and history enthusiasts alike.
