2010 KG Historical Society Metal Christmas Ornament – Eagle’s Nest
This distinctive metal ornament pays homage to Eagle’s Nest, the ancestral Fitzhugh family estate perched above the Potomac River in King George County. Originally at the heart of a vast 17th-century plantation spanning over 54,000 acres, it was founded by William Fitzhugh I (1651–1701)—a prominent merchant and member of the House of Burgesses.

The present dwelling rises on the foundation of the original home, bearing witness to centuries of architectural evolution and adaptive reuse. The property retains artifacts of early estate life, including two dovecotes, a smokehouse with distinctive tilted false-plate construction, terraced gardens, and a family cemetery dating back to 1679.

Released in 2010, this ornament captures the enduring legacy of Eagle’s Nest—its lineage, landscape, and architectural depth—offering collectors and history enthusiasts a tangible celebration of King George County’s colonial heritage.
