William Edward “Eddie” Ferrell was born 4 Sept 1918 in King George. When he enlisted in the Army on 8 May 1941 at age 22, he was single and lived in Weedonsville.
He was with Company B, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. On D-Day invasion, 6 Jun 1944, at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, Staff Sergeant Ferrell was killed.
At first, he was reported as missing in action. In December, 5 months after the invasion, his mother learned her son had been killed in action that tragic day in Normandy.
Eddie had just received word of his father's death days before the invasion. His father, William Oswald Ferrell, had died on 10 April 1944. Both are buried in Hanover Baptist Church Cemetery.
